Colorado Avoids Upset, Remains Unbeaten To Advance Into Semifinals; Tripleheader Set For Sunday

WELLINGTON, Fl., April 7, 2019----Colorado had a close call against upset-minded Alegria in its final bracket game of the Triple Crown of Polo Saturday at Valiente Polo Farm.

Headed into the final chukker tied at 6-6, Colorado (Rob Jornayvaz, 2, Juan Martin Zubia, 7, Adolfo Cambiaso, 10, Jero del Carril, 7) reeled off four unanswered goals by Zubia and Del Carril to defeat Alegria (Freddie Mannix, 8, Juan Martin Obregon, 5, Gringo Colombres, 7, Jesse Bray, 6), 10-6, to become the first team to advance into Thursday's semifinals with a 3-0 record. 

"We just ran out of one last bullet in the last chukker," Mannix said. "I felt we were close. I thought we could have done it if we could just catch a good break at the right time. We didn't quite have enough bullets left. What a shame, we were so close."

On a perfect sunny afternoon for polo at Valiente Polo Farm, Valiente (Bob Jornayvaz, Pamela Flanagan, Mia Cambiaso, Adolfo Cambiaso) defeated Audi (Milli Sanchez, Nina Clarkin, Alejandro Novillo Astrada, Marc Ganzi), 6-4, Friday in the WPL U.S. National Mixed Doubles Championship.

Audi Remains Unbeaten In Triple Crown Of Polo; Alegria Plays Colorado In Key Matchup Saturday At Valiente

WELLINGTON, Fl., April 6, 2019----Audi turned in its finest performance of the high goal season to remain undefeated in the Triple Crown of Polo Friday at Valiente Polo Farm.

Audi (Marc Ganzi, 2, Nic Roldan, 8, Pablo MacDonough, 10, Kris Kampsen, 6) led from start-to-finish to defeat Grand Champions (Grant Ganzi, 3, Juancito Bollini, 4, Juan Martin Nero, 10, Rodrigo Andrade, 9), 12-10 in a battle of  unbeaten teams. Both pro teams are based at Grand Champions Polo Club.

Audi (2-0) plays WPL (1-1) in its final bracket game Sunday in the feature game at 4 p.m. at Grand Champions Polo Club's Field 2. In the two early Sunday games, Grand Champions plays Mandarina at 10 a.m. at Jan Pamela Field 3 and Valiente plays Black Watch at Valiente Polo Farm Field 2 at 1 p.m.

WELLINGTON, Fl., April 5, 2019----Colorado remained unbeaten and WPL won its first game Thursday in the Triple Crown of Polo while the World Polo League will make a little more history on Friday with a unique first-of-its kind game. 

The World Polo League U.S. National Mixed Doubles Championship, featuring two men and two women with combined handicaps, will be the feature game Friday at 4 p.m. at Valiente Polo Farm.

Valiente (Bob Jornayvaz, Mia Novillo Astrada, Mia Cambiaso, Adolfo Cambiaso) will play Audi (Marc Ganzi, Pablo MacDonough/Juan Martin Nero, Nina Clarkin, Mili Sanchez). The game will pit 10-goalers Cambiaso and Clarkin against each other.

Alegria Wins On Day Four Of Triple Crown Of Polo; Doubleheader On Thursday

WELLINGTON, Fl., April 4, 2019----Alegria won its first game of the World Polo League's Triple Crown of Polo Wednesday with a convincing win at blustery Jan Pamela Field.

Alegria (Freddie Mannix, 8, Jesse Bray, 6, Gringo Colombres, 7, Juan Martin Obregon, 5) dominated most of the game for a 16-12 victory over Black Watch (Juan Cruz Merlos, 5, Nacho Figueras, 6, Pite Merlos, 8/Lucas Lalor, 5, Tommy Biddle, 5).

Alegria had to dig itself out of a hole early when Black Watch started with a 3-0 lead on handicap. By the end of the first chukker, Alegria trailed by only one (5-4) on Bray's goal with 31 seconds left.

"We had a good team dinner last night at Franco's and we just said we know the style of play we wanted to play but we didn't want to make any more mistakes," Mannix said. "We can make physical mistakes but not try and make mental mistakes. Of course, we made a few but we made less and when you make less you play better."

WELLINGTON, Fl., April 3, 2019---Teams and rosters were announced for the much-anticipated Sunny Hale's Legacy Women’s Championship Tournament (WCT) Finals Saturday at Grand Champions Polo Club.

The only women’s polo event of its kind and largest polo league in the world, now in its 13th year, was created by Hall of Famer Sunny Hale, who has done more for women's polo than any player, past or present. 

The WCT Finals has attracted players from throughout the U.S. and internationally including 10-goaler Nina Clarkin of Great Britain.
