In the opening semifinal on Thursday, Travieso (Tony Calle, 3, Grant Ganzi, 2, Juan Cruz Merlos, 5, Pite Merlos, 8) advanced into the final with an impressive 14-9 victory over Flexjet (Melissa Ganzi, 0, Pablo Dorignac, 5, Kris Kampsen, 6/Dominic State, 2, Juan Bollini, 5).

USPA North American Cup, Fall Classic Doubleheader Highlight Busy Week At Grand Champions

WELLINGTON, Fla., October 24, 2018----Two tournaments over four days highlight polo action this week at Grand Champions Polo Club.


The USPA North American Cup, the club's first of two 20-goal tournaments of the fall season, begins Thursday with two semifinal games. The winners advance to the championship game on Saturday. 


On Thursday in the first semifinal at 10 a.m., Flexjet plays Travieso on Field 3. In the second semifinal at 4:30 p.m. on either Field 4 or 5, Audi plays Gracida Wines. On Saturday, the final and subsidiary games are 10 a.m. and 11:45 a.m. With father and son Pite and Juan Cruz Merlos playing together for the first time at Grand Champions, Travieso looks to be the team to beat.

WELLINGTON, Fla., October 22,  2018---On a perfect day for polo, Sebucan rallied in the fifth chukker to win the US Trust Cup Sunday at windswept Grand Champions Polo Club.

After a scoreless fourth chukker, Sebucan (Pablo Pulido, 2, Juancito Bollini, 4, Whistle Uys, 4, Carlitos Gracida, 4) scored three goals in the fifth chukker for a thrilling 9-7 victory over ChukkerTV (Gerardo Patin, 0, Brandon Phillips, 4, Julio Gracida, 4, Juan Bollini, 5).

South African Whistle Uys was named Most Valuable Player. It was his second MVP honor of the fall season. Playing for Santa Clara, he was MVP of the season-opening Tackeria Invitational subsidiary game after scoring three goals and giving Sebucan fits on defense.

In two exciting qualifying games on Friday, ChukkerTV (Santos Bollini, 1, Brandon Phillips, 4, Julio Gracida, 4, Juan Bollini, 5) defeated Newport (Gene Goldstein, 1, Grant Ganzi, 2, Juan Cruz Merlos, 5, Kris Kampsen, 6), 10-7, in the opening game.

Newport and Travieso will meet Sunday in the Just For The Fun Of It subsidiary game followed by the title game at 5 p.m.

ChukkerTV controlled most of the game leading by at least two goals from start-to-finish. ChukkerTV jumped out to a 4-0 lead early in the second chukker and maintained its momentum and kept the pressure on for most of the game. Newport had its share of scoring opportunities but could get no closer than two goals.

WELLINGTON, Fla., October 18,  2018----After a successful and exciting season-opener, the second tournament of the fall season gets under way Friday at Grand Champions Polo Club. 

In last week's hardfought game, Casablanca (Grant Ganzi, Juancito Bollini, Julio Gracida, MVP Mariano Gracida) defeated Flexjet (Santos Bollini, Lucas Escobar, Kris Kampsen, Juan Bollini), 10-9, in overtime to win the Tackeria Invitational.

This week the US Trust Cup opens with two games on Friday at 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., both on Field 4.

In the first game at 10 a.m., ChukkerTV (Gerardo Patin, Brandon Phillips, Julio Gracida, Juan Bollini) will meet Newport (Gene Goldstein, Grant Ganzi, Juan Cruz Merlos, Kris Kampsen). Both teams are rated at 14 goals.
