Porsche San Diego Captures Polo America Beach Polo Cup; Riley Ganzi Named Most Valuable Player

In front of a record crowd on the private beach of the iconic Hotel del Coronado, Porsche San Diego won the second annual Polo America Beach Polo Cup.

The team of Riley Ganzi, Juan Bollini and Mike Azzaro defeated Westime (Melissa Ganzi, Lucas Lalor, Alejandro Novillo Astrada), 9-6, on Sunday.

Teenager Riley Ganzi scored five goals in the final and nine goals overall in two games and was unanimous choice for Most Valuable Player honors. At 17, Ganzi was the youngest player in the 16-player field.

“I didn’t have any expectation of whether we would make it to the final,” said Ganzi, a senior at Boca Raton St. Andrew’s School. “I knew Juan and Mike would be great teammates. I was definitely hopeful.

Defending Champion Aspen Valley Polo Club Heads Field For Polo America Beach Polo Cup That Begins Friday

The iconic Hotel del Coronado and Pacific Ocean will serve as breathtaking backdrops when Aspen Valley Polo Club tries to defend its title in the second annual Polo America Beach Polo Cup that begins Friday.

Some of the best players in the world, including Hall of Famer and former 10-goaler Mike Azzaro, and Argentine 8-goal rated brothers Alejandro and Nacho Novillo Astrada, will compete in a beautiful setting on the hotel’s private white sandy beach.

Travieso Wins Season-Finale At Aspen Valley Polo Club; Carlitos Gracida Named Game MVP; Lucas Lalor Season MVP

Aspen Valley Polo Club, the nation’s fastest growing polo club, ended its’ most successful season in club history this past weekend.

Travieso won its’ second tournament of the summer polo season capturing the season-finale Carbondale Classic on Sunday with an 11-8 victory over Casablanca, the club’s winningest team this season.

Travieso (Mike Azzaro, Teo Calle, Tony Calle, Carlitos Gracida) took control of the game early and never trailed against Casablanca (Marc Ganzi, Grant Ganzi, Stewart Armstrong, Juancito Bollini) to win the five-team, two-day tournament.

Gracida was named Most Valuable Player for the game and Lucas Lalor, a member of three winning teams this season and one of the most consistent players, was selected Most Valuable Player for the eight-week season.

Casablanca has now won more tournaments than any other team this summer. Going into the five-team, two-day tournament Casablanca and La Karina each had won two tournaments. Casablanca also won the Basalt Handicap and Craig Sakin Memorial.

Aspen Valley Polo Club Fundraiser Raises $366,000 For Aspen Valley Hospital Foundation

he Champagne, Caviar & Chukkers fundraiser at Aspen Valley Polo Club raised $366,000 for the Aspen Valley Hospital Foundation.

The fundraising event held during the August 13 Mount Sopris Cup was a winning combination with the sport of polo for the hospital in the midst of raising much-needed funding for its third phase of a four-phase master facilities project.

The soldout crowd of more than 600 enjoyed a lavish four-course menu prepared by Caribou Club Catering of Aspen. With white-glove service and impeccable attention to detail in the VIP tent, tables fetched from $10,000 to $50,000.

While watching the subsidiary and final, which Travieso won, guests enjoyed gazpacho, shrimp and asparagus cocktail, sea bass, decadent desserts, roving caviar cart and bottomless champagne.

Travieso returned to its winning ways in the championship final of the Mount Sopris Cup Sunday at Aspen Valley Polo Club.

In front of a record crowd and worldwide ChukkerTV audience, the foursome of Teo Calle, Tony Calle, Nacho Novillo Astrada and Marc Ganzi defeated Mexico (Billy Steta, Grant Ganzi, Carlitos Gracida, Juancito Bollini), 10-6, to win the five-team, three-day tournament and bounce back from last weekend’s 14-9 loss to Aspen Valley Polo Club in the High Alpine Cup final.

Travieso dominated the game from the opening chukker taking Mexico out of its game plan and dominating the throw-ins, 13-6.

“The ball just came out our way today,” Marc Ganzi said. “Those kids have played so great all summer. It’s been tough to stop Juan and Grant.

The renowned hospital is the first Colorado hospital to be selected as a member of the Mayo Clinic Care Network after passing a rigorous review process based on quality, service and operational criteria. The Aspen Valley Hospital Foundation, now entering its fifth year, is a non-profit solely focused on encouraging philanthropic support for the current and future needs of Aspen Valley Hospital.

During the fundraiser, there will be live and silent auctions, pony rides, kids activities, various vendor tents and live aerial silks performance by Allie Azzaro.

In the battle of the unbeatens, Flexjet (Melissa Ganzi, 1, Juan Bollini, 7, Alejandro Novillo Astrada, 8) broke a 6-6 halftime tie on Astrada’s goal with 3:52 left in the third chukker and never trailed Audi (Marc Ganzi, 3, Nacho Novillo Astrada, 8, Stewart Armstrong, 4) after that.

Argentine seven-goaler Juan Bollini was named Most Valuable Player after dominating the game and scoring two 2-pointers. Bollini has been playing for 32 years since he moved to the United States in 1985.

Travieso Makes Summer Debut In High Alpine Cup Friday At Aspen Valley Polo Club

Six teams, including Travieso making its summer season debut, will compete in the High Alpine Cup this weekend at Aspen Valley Polo Club.

Travieso, the winningest team during the 2016 summer season, is led by father and son Teo and Tony Calle and will be joined by former 10-goaler Mike Azzaro and top amateur Marc Ganzi.

Last season Travieso won the High Alpine Cup, Craig Sakin Memorial and ChukkerTV Challenge Cup.

Ecuador-based Travieso, also one of the winningest teams at Grand Champions Polo Club, started three years ago in medium goal and quickly worked its way to 20-goal. Travieso won both the prestigious 20-goal Sterling Cup and Molina Cup tournaments at Grand Champions as a tuneup for its 26-goal U.S. Open debut in April.

United States Arena Handicap Tournament Begins Tuesday At Aspen Valley Polo Club

Six teams featuring some of the sport’s top players will compete in the United States Arena Handicap Polo Championship this week at Aspen Valley Polo Club.

It will be the first time in several years that the tournament, which begins on Tuesday, will be played as a stand-alone event.

Also for the first time, USPA Polo Network and Wellington-based Chukker TV will both live stream the three-day tournament.

The annual event dates back to 1980 and is a national USPA tournament played at medium goal level. In the past, the tournament has been played as a subsidiary to the U.S. Open Arena Polo Championship at Country Farms Polo Club in Medford, N.Y.

The four-chukker game featured fathers and sons who share a love for the sport and horses.

Juancito Bollini, 21, a senior at Florida Atlantic University, was named Most Valuable Player after scoring a game-high four goals, playing well defensively and dominating the throw-ins.
