In a hotly-contested game, Los Amigos Green (Alejandra de la Vega, Melissa Ganzi, Hilario Figueras, Juan Bollini) controlled most of the second half and held on for a thrilling 12-11 victory over Los Amigos Red (Paul Foster, Michael Payne, Gabriel Gracida, Carlitos Gracida).

Los Amigos Red (Riley Ganzi, Melissa Ganzi, Nacho Novillo Astrada, Juan Bollini) knocked off previously undefeated Piocho (Brian Boyd, Juancito Bollini, Nacho Figueras, Tom Barrack), 9-8, Friday in the opening round of the four-team tournament.

The opening game was a battle to the finish. The lead changed hands six times before Los Amigos Red took a 7-5 lead in the fifth chukker on Melissa Ganzi's fourth goal of the game.

The ChukkerTV Challenge opens Friday with two games at 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. In the opening game, Piocho Ranch (Brian Boyd, Juancito Bollini, Nacho Figueras, Tom Barrack), riding a two-tournament win streak after capturing the Independence Cup and Craig Sakin Memorial, plays Los Amigos Red (Alejandra de La Vega, Melissa Ganzi, Nacho Novillo Astrada, Juan Bollini).

In the second game of the doubleheader, Los Amigos Blue (Paul Foster, Grant Ganzi, Pablo Dorignac, Lucas Lalor) plays Sopris Mountain Ranch (Hilario Figueras, Alex Gooding, Marc Ganzi, Carlitos Gracida).

The winner advances into Sunday's final at 1 p.m. after the Just For The Love Of It subsidiary final at 11 a.m.

Trailing 3-2 at the half, Los Amigos Green (Alejandra Foster, Melissa Ganzi, Carlitos Gracida, Juan Bollini) rallied in the second half to edge Los Amigos Blue (Paul Foster, Gabriel Gracida, Michael Payne, Alex Gooding).

Alejandra Foster scored a game-high four goals and shared Most Valuable Player honors with Michael Payne, who scored a team-high three goals.

The evenly-matched teams battled back and forth. Ganzi scored first for a 1-0 lead and Payne followed with a goal for a 1-1 tie at the end of the opening chukker.

In front of a record crowd on the private beach of the iconic Hotel del Coronado, Porsche San Diego won the second annual Polo America Beach Polo Cup.

The team of Riley Ganzi, Juan Bollini and Mike Azzaro defeated Westime (Melissa Ganzi, Lucas Lalor, Alejandro Novillo Astrada), 9-6, on Sunday.

Teenager Riley Ganzi scored five goals in the final and nine goals overall in two games and was unanimous choice for Most Valuable Player honors. At 17, Ganzi was the youngest player in the 16-player field.

“I didn’t have any expectation of whether we would make it to the final,” said Ganzi, a senior at Boca Raton St. Andrew’s School. “I knew Juan and Mike would be great teammates. I was definitely hopeful.

Travieso won its’ second tournament of the summer polo season capturing the season-finale Carbondale Classic on Sunday with an 11-8 victory over Casablanca, the club’s winningest team this season.

Travieso (Mike Azzaro, Teo Calle, Tony Calle, Carlitos Gracida) took control of the game early and never trailed against Casablanca (Marc Ganzi, Grant Ganzi, Stewart Armstrong, Juancito Bollini) to win the five-team, two-day tournament.

Gracida was named Most Valuable Player for the game and Lucas Lalor, a member of three winning teams this season and one of the most consistent players, was selected Most Valuable Player for the eight-week season.

Aspen Valley Polo Club's summer polo season comes to a successful end this week with the Carbondale Classic.

Five teams will compete in the two-day tournament.

Action begins Friday at 11 a.m. MST, Flexjet plays Casablanca in a regulation six-chukker game at Sopris Field. At 5 p.m. at High Mesa, a round-robin between Tonkawa, Travieso and Los Amigos will be played.
